Died a martyr to liberty Mahatma Gandhi who fought for years for the independence of India ad who saw blood run through its streets, cities and fields, finally witnessed the enormous triumph of the separation of his country from the British Empire.

But his ideals did not receive the compensation of which they were entitled. He died a martyr to his dream of liberty months after attaining a triumph. The memory of Mahatma Gandhi merits the respect of all lovers of liberty.

With him has disappeared one of the greatest figures of this epoch, the standard-bearer of human ideals.
